Kolhapur Jaggery Manufacturer

Even though it has different names, jaggery is widely used around the world; from south-east Asia to the Latin Americas. If Ayurveda is to be believed, the first production and consumption of jaggery can be dated back up to 3000 years, when it was used not just as a sweetener, but a medicine as well. However, some experts claim that it was brought to India by the Portuguese in the early 17th century.

Most cultures consume jaggery made from sugarcane, but it is also made from the sap of the date palm and toddy palm. Jaggery, in India was produced after sugarcane plants were introduced by travellers from Polynesia into the Indian subcontinent. Before the mass switch to processed, refined sugar, almost all of the world used jaggery for sweetening foods.

Even to this day, most traditional dishes and sweets (especially those for religious occasions) made across India and the neighbouring regions are prepared with jaggery exclusively. Due to its disputed origin, the etymology of the word ‘jaggery’ is often argued upon. Some believe that it comes from its Portuguese name- ‘jagara’, while others claim it is derived from the Malayalam name- ‘sarkkara’.

Whatever the real origin of jaggery be, what is inarguable is that it is delicious and healthy. At Cane Agro, we have blended this age-old tradition of taste and health with the modern manufacturing processes to ensure hygiene, purity and the highest nutritional value in each bite.
